Something we think about a lot here is how to balance a wide-open experience (e.g. Xohm members can go wherever they want, use whatever apps fit their fancy) with managing the cost of the network. It's tricky: building a new network is expensive enough, but managing costs (to assure load is balanced so Xohm members have a great experience) is going to require a little magic. We're working on that now.
But you can imagine to battle between those like this blogger ("to launch the network, just give people and businesses exactly what they want and the revenue will follow") and the slightly more cautious (let's secure our rev plan with hooks in place to manage costs from abusers, etc.) Good times.
Have also been thinking about "openness" in general. Today, we're specifically thinking about open platforms and how to treat the entire Web as such, rather than driving through on solution or other. This led us to someone thinking creatively about decentralization and social nets. If you have a minute you might like
